SWINGING A BAT

so i have this poster of derek jeter in my room cause hes my favorite baseball player :) and he's swinging the bat which is something related to physics. as you can see in the poster he is kinda twisting his body and following through with his swing. in baseball when the ball approaches the batter, he steps into the pitch and twists his body to transfer energy into the bat which causes the ball to go far!

DANCE SHOWCASE LIGHTS

On friday i went with some friends to watch dance showcase. To set the scene there were many spotlights shining on the stage in Lower Gym. I realized that there are physics involved with these lights and because they had filters over the white light source the spotlights were emitting colored light. According to doc! the filters on the lights are a little more fancy then just simple little plastic.

GLASSES

i am nearsighted, which means my eyes are unable to focus on things far away. for my glasses, i have diverging lens so they are thinner in the center and thicker on the outside. the rays of light enter through the lens travelling parallel to its principle axes but diverge after passing through. in a converging lens which is thickest in the middle, the rays of light intersect after entering the lens.

POOL TABLE

After prom i stayed at my friends house and while i was there i watched as my friends played pool on his pool table and i realized this is a perfect thing for my physics blogs because it involves Change in KE and Change in Momentum. It also shows newton's first law of motion because the colored balls are at rest when the cueball strikes it and then the colored ball moves. Also according to Marcus the balls slow down due to friction with the table

POLARIZED SUNGLASSES

I went to the beach this weekend and as the sun was going down the glare from it was shining off of the wet sand and the water. it was super bright so i wore my polarized sunglasses that stopped the vertically aligned rays from shining to my eyes because the sunglasses are horizontally aligned.

REFRIGERATOR MAGNETS

i think we should have more three day but seems like four day weekends :) alrighty so my mother went to the fair and brought back home some fruits and told me to put them in the refrigerator. well when i went to the fridge, i looked up and saw some magnets holding papers. the magnets on the fridge are magnetized which allows them to exert a magnetic field. the magnet is able to induce a magnetic field on the surface of the refrigerator and thus it sticks together.

COMPASSES

wow this weekend was way too short. but yay for 4-day school weeks :) sooo on saturday night i went running cause i felt like it. it was actually kinda dark except for the yellowy streetlights. the physics concept in this is a compass. in the unlikely situation of getting lost running in your neigborhood when its dark at night, a compass could come in handy. a magnetized compass needle aligns with earth's magnetic poles. the angle between the magnetic and geographic poles of the earth is called the magnetic declination. by using the compass, i would be able to find my way back home safely.
